July 2011 - Leslie

My name is Leslie and I have worked as a professional singer, dancer and actress since childhood. I am married to my wonderful and supportive husband, Thomas who is a wealth advisor and I am the proud Mommy of 5-year-old twin girls…by far the most challenging role I’ve played.

When asked to be Mom of the Month I was very excited and honored so Thank-you West Coast Moms!

Trying to balance motherhood and showbiz can be overwhelming at times. After having the twins I tried my hand
at being a super woman - performing in plays, acting on TV
and auditioning for commercials. I found myself completely depleted of everything and I discovered I was suffering from post partum depression. It actually took “having it all” that made me decide to step back for a bit. I took a 4-year hiatus from
work to focus solely on Motherhood.

Through numerous conversations I discovered there were many moms and even some dads dealing with post partum depression. I wanted to get that conversation out into the open.  So, in June of 2010 with the help of the Pacific Post Partum Support Society we created DIVAS TO DIAPERS…AND BACK AGAIN, a community event that raised awareness for PPD.  This event offered families education and allowed them to get related and share stories. It was a fun day that I believe had a powerful impact.

This September marks another milestone in my journey through Motherhood as our twins start full-day kindergarten. This brings up emotions ranging from fear to excitement and everything in between.

Knowing I’d have more time to myself I felt the need to seek gainful employment. I have since started back into the auditioning process and have been very fortunate to land a role on the TV series, SUPERNATURAL. The twins are becoming old enough to understand the type of work that Mommy does.  I took them to the special effects studio where I was getting prepped for my role and they were in their glory playing with all the movie props. A bit of a bizarre playground, but they embraced it nonetheless.

In hindsight the crazy world of showbiz actually schooled me well for managing twins: Go with the flow, be versatile, stand up for what you believe in and above all else know how to improvise!

Sincerely,
Leslie
